Almost there

Hotel Zed was a pipe dream in my head for so long and now that it's actually here it's a tad surreal.  A journalist asked me today, "Now that Zed is up and running, is it what you imagined?"

No, not in the slightest.  It's so much more vibrant and interesting given the crazy collaboration of our team, suppliers and amazing partners that it has far exceeded the little dream I harboured in my head a decade ago.

I always knew that a vintage VW shuttle bus would be the cornerstone of the hotel hauling people to and from downtown, but I sure didn't imagine her looking so funky!!  I knew the rooms would have rotary dial phones, but I never envisioned such rebellious colour, or comic books in the bathroom? I mean, who does that?! When the GM suggested a free bike rental program I screamed, "yes!".

And there's still so much more to come!

The waterslide arrives next week and will then take a few weeks to install.  Yes, waterslide! The sunbathing decks will be lounge-able around the same time and the Ping Pong Lounge is so near completion, I can almost hear that unmistakable hollow boink of the ball.  The only thing we are really going to have to wait on is the restaurant, but luckily there are plenty of those within walking distance.

Chances are Zed will always be Almost There as it's an ever evolving work/dream in progress. My hope is that we never stop dreaming, collaborating and reimagining the awesomeness of Zed.
