Local makeup artist turns breathers into ankle-biters at Hotel Zed
The undead are taking over Victoria's Hotel Zed this Halloween and as any good hotel does, it's offering those walkers some travel tips, so they, too, can travel in style and comfort.
The second instalment of the Victoria, BC retro boutique hotel's "Zombie Begins With Zed" movie series, produced by John Espley and Visual Elements Video Production, features tips and tricks for zombies on how to vacation like a living human; including honeymooning, catching a quick dinner, and even using the Zedinator water slide.
Local makeup maven, Natasha Winters was responsible for turning the living to the undead for this short film. Winters is an accomplished professional makeup artist who does the majority of her work making her clients feel glamourous. But after graduating from Blanche MacDonald in 2006, she got her start in the industry doing makeup effects for indie film.
"When I was in school, my final project was a zombie that took me about four hours to make," says Winters. "I thought I was going to do zombie movies for the rest of my life! I really wanted to." But Winters says the long days weren't as glamourous as she had dreamed, so she decided to get into the beauty/wedding industry, where she's been busy making people feel gorgeous ever since.
"I used to promote my business as glamour and gore which was quite suited, but I found that brides didn't appreciate being handed a card with a bloody graphic on it, so I decided it was time to switch it up!" she says.
"In my everyday career in Victoria don't get the chance to make people so spooky — they usually just want to look more beautiful. Although, I just love making people scary and rotty!"
"I like hotel Zed's enthusiasm to be different. What other hotel in town is going to spend their money on zombie fun?!?! None." says Winters.
