Our Little Secret: Why November in Victoria is Pure Magic
Not to brag, but we are so lucky in Victoria that magnificence is a year-round affair. It’s one of Canada’s prettiest cities (but we’re not biased), and autumn is the ideal time to check it out. Crisp air, colourful foliage, and way fewer tourists? Yes, please!
Why wait until winter when you rock your coziest sweaters now? Victoria’s pleasant climate means sunny days for strolling the culinary scene and vibrant tree-lined streets, with indoor markets for those occasional drizzly days. (Hot tip: Splashing in puddles is totally acceptable here!)
And where better to set up your funky fall base than at the newly renovated Hotel Zed Victoria? We’re talking year-round pool vibes, hot tub relaxation, and sauna sessions that’ll warm you up from those crisp autumn breezes. Plus, you can use up those precious vacation days before they vanish. We’re loving it here now, and you should too!
Why Victoria in Late Fall? Because It’s Totally Rad!
Victoria in late fall is like that perfect vintage record you stumble upon — an unexpected gem that’ll have you grooving to a whole new beat.

Market Madness
As the weather cools, Victoria’s market scene heats up. Check out the Moss Street Market for local produce and artisanal goods, the Victoria Public Market in the historic Hudson building, or warm up at the cozy Bastion Square Winter Market. Our tip for attending: come hungry, leave happy.
For holiday vibes, Victoria’s market scene awaits you under the mistletoe — and she’s not shy. Ask our friendly staff for festive favourites around town!
See Salmon Run
You’ll need a car for this experience, but if you have access to wheels, we recommend heading up to Goldstream Provincial Park for the annual salmon run. It’s a natural wonder when you get to witness about 30,000 salmon return to the Goldstream river to spawn and move on. While you’re out there, take a stroll among the majestic old-growth trees and breathe in why British Columbia is aptly referred to as “Beautiful BC.” The fishies swim from late October to early December.
Sip and Savour to Your Heart’s Content
We’ve got your morning coffee and tea sorted in house, but if you’re seeking that quintessential hipster coffee shop experience, head over to Discovery Coffee, Habit Coffee, or Hey Happy. Their seasonal lattes are so good, they might just make you want to hug a barista (but maybe ask first, yeah?).
For your evening beverage fix (or afternoon, no judgment), Victoria has been a breeding ground for breweries as of late. If craft beer is your thing, you’re spoiled for choice. Some of our faves include Herald Street Brew Works, Superflux {Cabana}, and Whistle Buoy. If decision-making isn’t your strong suit, why not drink all the pints with one tour? West Coast Brewery Tours can guide you in all the right directions.

Insider’s Tip: FanTan Alley and Chinatown
Consider yourself an honourary local once you visit these iconic staples of Victoria. Check out FanTan Alley, North America’s narrowest commercial street at just 0.9 meters (3 feet) wide at its narrowest point. This Instagram-worthy spot, with its narrow brick-lined walls, is a photographer’s dream and a must-visit for your social media feed.
Just around the corner, you’ll find Canada’s oldest Chinatown — a compact but charming area packed with history. As you explore, keep an eye out for the distinctive architecture blending Western styles with Chinese elements like upturned eaves, recessed balconies, and decorative motifs featuring dragons and phoenixes. It’s like taking a step back in time!
Sunset Stroll
Victoria’s sunsets are a daily spectacle not to be missed. As the sun dips below the horizon, it paints the sky in a psychedelic swirl of oranges, pinks, and purples, reflecting off the ocean with the Olympic Mountain backdrop. STUNNING.
Best spots to catch this natural wonder:
-
- Dallas Road Waterfront
-
- Mount Tolmie
-
- Clover Point
Don’t forget to bring a blanket and maybe a special someone — these Victoria sunsets are too good not to share!
But Wait, There’s More!
