If you want to drive to Tofino, you're first step will be to a ferry to Vancouver Island. There are several options:

Once you're on the Island, enjoy the scenic route North to Tofino. It should take about three hours to drive from Nanaimo. Give yourself lots of time to stop and explore old growth forests and breathtaking vistas. You'll need to take Route 4/Pacific Rim Highway to get to the West Coast. Please note that conditions can be rough in the winter, and chains and winter tires are legally required between October 1 and March 31. Check weather conditions before you travel!
Also, it's important to note that there is significant roadworks going on right now on Highway 4. Please be sure to check for construction notices and give yourself some extra time. You can always check for the latest announcements on this wonderful facebook page.
Don't have your own wheels? No worries. The Island Bus Company offers regular routes up and down Vancouver Island. You can even walk onto BC Ferries and catch the bus from the terminal! Check out their website for up-to-date schedules.
There are several options if you want to fly directly to Tofino!
You can also fly into Nanaimo or Victoria and rent a car to take you the rest of the way. The journey is almost as epic as your destination!
